The Atlanta Braves currently lead the the NL East Division, and have for a while. With just over a month until the MLB Trade Deadline, here are a few of the emerging storylines.

Thanks to the votes of thousands of Braves fans (and MLB fans in general), several Braves should make the trip to Washington for All-Star Game festivities in July.

Within the context of the All-Star Game, there are plenty of threads for fans to follow. Ozzie Albies, Nick Markakis, Sean Newcomb and Mike Foltynewicz could all potentially make their All-Star debuts. Markakis and Albies lead outfielders and Second Basemen in votes.

Either Newcomb or Folty would have to be chosen by players and managers to make the starting rotation. It’s doubtful that both would make the team, barring any injuries to other All-Stars. A little friendly competition between the two could make for a fun few weeks as each looks to claim his spot.

Meanwhile, Freddie Freeman is practically assured the starting First Base vote. He leads all players in All-Star votes. He leads the second-place First Baseman (Anthony Rizzo) by more than double the votes Rizzo has.

There’s even an outside chance that Kurt Suzuki could be the starting Catcher. He’s in a close race against Buster Posey and Wilson Contreras.

The All-Star vote gives tangible evidence of the excitement among Braves fans.

Voting races and the competition to see which teams can get the most players into the game always bring some levity to what can be a slow portion of the season. This season, it also puts the league on notice that the Braves should be taken as a serious threat.
