The Atlanta Braves have parted ways with Peter Bourjos. The light hitting outfielder has elected free agency and will leave Atlanta.

Peter Bourjos and the Atlanta Braves have parted ways. Bourjos has bounced back and forth between the Braves bench and the minor leagues. He finished his time in Atlanta hitting an underwhelming.205 in limited at-bats.

Bourjos was a nice bench piece for the team the Braves thought they had coming into the season. As the year has progressed and the team has continued to take control of the National League East Bourjos was no longer needed.

With Ronald Acuna Jr. capable of spelling Ender Inciarte in center field the team can do without Peter on their bench.

He brings a great glove and the ability to back up center field. Beyond that, there are few things Bourjos brings to the team they couldn’t do without.

Sending him back to free agency was a good move for a team expected to look to improve their bench and more importantly their bullpen.

Bourjos is unlikely to find much of a market considering his extended struggles at the plate. He does offer great pinch running speed and ability to play all three outfield positions. Finding a roster spot on those strengths wouldn’t be shocking.

Charlie Culberson will assumably be the 4th outfielder for the team if they keep their current roster. Charlie has played in left and right field this season though it seems only Acuna or Inciarte will earn starts in center.

Moving on from Bourjos is a good move, one pointing to the Braves realizing they are slowly becoming favorites to win the National League East.

Cutting Bourjos from the roster improves their pinch-hitting and opens up a potential spot at the trade deadline.   The Braves road trip will continue as the Braves wrap their series up against the Yankees Wednesday before heading to take on the Brewers in a four-game set.
