The Atlanta Hawks have remained silent so far in the NBA free agency frenzy. The right move for a team still at least a year away from contention.

Lebron James leaving the Eastern Conference is good news for the Atlanta Hawks and every other team in the Eastern Conference.  Aside from the news of James leaving for the West, the Hawks haven’t been involved in any of the early headlines.

Staying quiet in free agency is the right move for Atlanta considering they should now be focused on moving bad contracts.

Focusing on moving Kent Bazemore and Dennis Schroder should be the only headlines the Hawks make this off-season.

Giving Kevin Huerter and Trae Young next season with John Collins and the veterans to gauge how far away the Hawks are.

With Lebron no longer ruling the East the Hawks could be back in contention within a year if Trae Young and Kevin Huerter are as good as the Hawks hope.

If not, the team is likely two or three years away from fielding a competitive roster. Regardless this off-season is about the Hawks focusing on youth and moving bad contracts signing any big names would be a mistake for the Hawks.

Short term veteran deals should be the only considerations for a team who has a young core.  John Collins will turn into a valuable roster piece beyond Collins the Hawks roster is full of holes and questions.

Until those questions are answered expendable veteran deals are the only moves the Hawks should make.

The Hawks summer league schedule has kicked off this week as the team’s young prospects begin to learn how to play together.  Keeping a close eye on how the new additions fare should be interesting enough for Hawk’s fans who still have a long off-season ahead of them.
