Rodney Hood is a curious case of a guy who was supposed to play a major role beside LeBron James, after being traded to Cleveland prior to last season’s trade deadline. Instead, his 3 point shooting declined from nearly 39%, to a shade over 35%. His scoring dropped off a drastic 6 points.

More alarming, is his defensive rating also took a major dive. After struggling in round 1 against Indiana in the playoffs, Hood was removed from the regular rotation. His frustration culminated in his alleged refusal to enter a blowout game 4 vs the Raptors. Hood resurfaced in game 3 of the NBA Finals when the team facing a 0-2 deficit, needed a jolt. Hood provided just that, with 15 points and 16 rebounds, in 26 minutes. He followed that up with 10 points and 8 rebounds in game 4.

Hood would fit with the Atlanta Hawks as a spot up shooter, and a guy Lloyd Pierce should be able to get the best out of defensively. He would be yet another 3 point shooter to provide space for Trae Young, John Collins, and Taurean Prince to operate in.

His 28 playoff games in the last 2 seasons, as well as playing with LeBron James, should allow him to pass some insight to his younger teammates, should he become a Hawk. Cleveland is reportedly going to attempt to compete even without LeBron, so it’s likely that they will match every offer within reason. If the Atlanta Hawks are unable to land the aforementioned Smart, and time allows, I would be in favor of the Hawks pursuing Hood.

Verdict: The Atlanta Hawks should sign Hood to a 4 year $50 million dollar offer sheet
