Alex Len was the number 5 overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft. He’s 1 of several former top 10 draft picks on our list, who have yet to fulfill their potential. Len was not tendered a qualifying offer making him an Unrestricted Free Agent. Even though the Suns decided to move on, Len quietly had one of, if not the best season of his career. He posted career-best per 36 numbers in points, rebounds, assists, and FT attempts. Alex posted his 2nd lowest turnover rate and increased his career best FG% by nearly 6%.
Len’s fit with the Atlanta Hawks comes as a roll man, rim runner, rim protector. He’s athletic for his size and has the quickness to defend in space better than many big men his size. He doesn’t offer much spacing as 73.3% of his FGs come within 3 feet, and 90% within 10 feet of the hoop. Alex is only 25 and offers an upgrade over Miles Plumlee as a backup center in virtually every category.
Verdict: The Atlanta Hawks need to get to the NBA salary floor. They should take a chance on Len on a 2 year 9 million dollar deal, with year 2 being a team option.
