The Atlanta Falcons didn’t have a first-round pick in 2012. Did they still find a solid player?

The pick: Peter Konz, Center, 55th overall

Their impact: During three years with the Falcons, Konz appeared in 39 games. Twenty-eight of those were starts, but he only started 3 games during his last year.

Konz retired after leaving the Falcons and was viewed as a bust by many draft experts.

Who else was available that round?: The following players were drafted after Konz: Lavonte David, Vinny Curry, Kelechi Osemele, and Casey Hayward.

It’s fair to assume the Falcons would have preferred all of these players over Konz.

David has more than 750 career tackles and is a three-time All-Pro. He has been a stud since his rookie year with the Bucs.

Hayward is a two-time All-Pro and is arguably one of the best cornerbacks in the entire National Football League.

The other two players have both been consistent contributors throughout their entire careers.

Would they switch the pick?: Absolutely.

Lavonte David would be a great addition to our linebacking corp that also features Clay Matthews and David Hawthorne.

The middle of our defense should be able to stop both the pass and the run consistently.

Atlanta really missed their opportunity to grab a superstar with this pick.
