Atlanta Braves Have Strong Interest in Mike Moustakas
By Kit Anderson
The Atlanta Braves could have a new third baseman in Mike Moustakas. The Braves are targeting the third baseman as well as Manny Machado.
Mike Moustakas could be headed to Atlanta if the Braves can pull off a trade with the Royals. According to this report, the Royals are unlikely to move Mike until the Manny Machado sweepstakes have been won.
The Braves are involved with talks to acquire Manny Machado as well, though it seems unlikely the Braves are a top contender. They are reportedly a fringe team in the Machado discussions.
Trading for a player like Moustakas seems more likely if the Braves do decide to add to their already strong lineup.
Looking at the roster the biggest holes are in the rotation and in the back of the bullpen. Adding to their pitching depth should be the biggest priority. Still, if the team is able to do both adding a player like Moustakas to the lineup would be a boost.
He is hitting .249 currently not an impressive mark, but he is a career .251 hitter with power. He would add much-needed pop to the lineup.
Adding a player like Moose and avoiding paying the high price of a player like Manny Machado would be the right move for Atlanta if they opt to add to the lineup.
The only problem with this potential move is the cost. Is Johan Camargo really much worse than Mike Moustakas? Looking at the numbers they are surprisingly close with Moustakas gaining the edge in extra-base hits.
Adding Moustakas would be a move that makes Atlanta better. A move they should make only if the cost isn’t a top prospect.
