The Atlanta Hawks have interest in trading for Carmelo Anthony.  Trading for Carmelo would be only for the Hawks to rid themselves of a bad contract.

The Atlanta Hawks have gotten better this off-season. They added a better backup point guard in Jeremy Lin and drafted Hollywood in Trae Young. Both moves pointing to one obvious blatant fact Dennis Schroder is on his way out of Atlanta.

The Hawk’s reported interest in Carmelo Anthony is only because it would allow them to get out from under Dennis Schroder. Trading Melo for Dennis would be a good move for both sides. It would save OKC some cash and allow the Hawks to move forward.

Dennis has been trouble in the locker room and involved in legal trouble off of the court. The Hawks have had enough of Dennis and his antics and are willing to make a drastic move to rid themselves of the contract.

Personally keeping Dennis was the move to make in my opinion until they drafted the future in Trae Young.

Young is the future for Atlanta and has box office appeal putting his name in the news cycle already for basketball reasons.  Trading for Melo would be a move simply to rid themselves of Dennis.

They would look to buy out Anthony and allow him to become a free agent. The Hawks would have to add at least one more contract to make this potential deal work. They would also be likely to ask for at least one asset.

Getting a pick in the deal would be essential for the Hawks to help save face and add value considering they would be dumping Dennis for a player they plan to buy out.

Carmelo to Atlanta may have seemed a long shot but all of the sudden it is a move that makes too much sense for both sides not to explore as the rebuild continues.
