The Atlanta Braves are reportedly interested in trading with the Tigers. Micheal Fulmer has long been on their target list should they pull the trigger bringing the starter to Atlanta?

Watching the Atlanta Braves over the course of the last month it has become obvious they are in need of pitching.  With that in mind, their reported interest in trading for Michael Fulmer isn’t surprising.

Fulmer has been a solid pitcher over the last two years but is struggling so far this season. His ERA is at 4.50 and he hasn’t looked nearly as solid as he did in years past.

Trading for another 4+ ERA pitcher could potentially be a waste of time and resources for Atlanta. Trading for relievers the team can count on would be far more effective.

Fulmer would likely cost the Braves at least one top ten prospects considering his two years of success.

The Braves should hold off on dealing for Michael Fulmer. Waiting and taking a shot at a top free agent starter in the off-season would be a smart move for a team who does need another top arm in their rotation.

Three years in Fulmer has been too inconsistent for Atlanta to bet he is the missing piece and pay the high price it would take to bring him to Atlanta.

Adding a bullpen arm likely remains Atlanta’s top priority as we sit eleven days away from the MLB Trade Deadline.

Patience is key for a team sitting on the edge of contention. Waiting for the right deal or holding out for free agency next season has to be the move the Braves make considering no move they make will make the team World Series favorites.
