The Atlanta Hawks are finalizing a deal to bring Alex Len to Atlanta. Len will be signed to a two-year deal expected to be fully guaranteed.

Alex Len is expected to finalize a deal with the Atlanta Hawks as soon as the Carmelo Anthony/Dennis Schroder trade becomes official. The Hawks will add a capable veteran in Len who gives them much-needed depth at center.

With Miles Plumlee and Dewayne Dedmon as the only other true centers on the roster, the Hawks signing Len isn’t at all surprising.

Len averaged 8.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game last season. He is a more traditional center and will not help to stretch the floor.

Still, signing him is a good depth move for when the Hawks need a traditional center. Len is certainly better than Plumlee and will compete with Dedmon for center minutes.

The separating factor for Len is the fact Dedmon can shoot the three and help stretch the floor though he isn’t as solid defensively. John Collins will demand some minutes at center as well allowing the Hawks to play small ball with a lineup of Trae Young, Kevin Huerter, Kent Bazemore, Taurean Prince, and John Collins.

A quick lineup that can guard outside and move quickly up and down the court. Len is a depth move for the Hawks which makes it surprising they are willing to sign him for two years.

With a lot of cap space set to become available after next season the Hawks signing Len more than a single season is surprising.

Len’s deal will become official sometime after the Carmelo Anthony for Dennis Schroder trade becomes official. Allowing the Hawks to use what little cap room they will have left to add Len.
