The Atlanta Hawks are bringing in veteran leadership signing Vince Carter to a one-year deal. The move is a good one giving the Hawks a needed veteran leader
Vince Carter will be an Atlanta Hawks player this season after agreeing to sign a one-year veteran minimum with the Hawks. It was first reported by the Athletic’s Michael Scotto. Carter is a stalwart in the League and will be playing at the age of forty-two.
Carter averaged 5.4 points per game last season though he could improve upon that looking at the Hawk’s roster. He is likely to receive more minutes if he wants them and will be the veteran leader in the locker room.
Vince and Jeremy Lin are the two big moves of the Hawk’s off-season. Both are filler players who will help provide a healthy locker room and help teach Trae Young in his first NBA season.
Young is the Hawk’s premier player this season and will be facing a lot of questions and pressure. Bringing in a veteran like Carter to help the young kid is a savvy move from the front office.
The move is likely the Hawks last considering they have no cap space left after taking on Carmelo Anthony’s expiring contract in the Dennis Schroder trade.
Barring a creative trade Carter is likely the last meaningful addition this off-season. As currently constructed the Hawks will be an interesting team to watch with their success all relying on draft picks Kevin Huerter, Omari Spellman, and most importantly Trae Young.
If even one of the three can have a big and immediate impact the team should be better then they were last season.
Carter is spending his 21st season in the NBA an impressive mark for an explosive player who has evolved his game over the years. Overall adding Carter was a great move for a team in need of leadership and depth in the season to come.
