After a disappointing 2012 draft, the Falcons started off 2013 with a future starter.

The Pick: Desmond Trufant, Cornerback, 22nd overall

Their Impact: Since being drafted by the Falcons, Trufant has been one of their best defenders and has started the majority of games in the last five years.

He has nine career interceptions, 245 career tackles, and consistently defends the opposing teams’ number one receiver.

Although he has only been named to one Pro Bowl, Trufant is arguably one of the top ten best cornerbacks in the league.

Who Else Was Available That Round?: The late portion of this first round was stacked.

Sharrif Floyd, Xavier Rhodes, DeAndre Hopkins, and Travis Frederick were all taken after the Falcons grabbed Trufant.

All of these players have been consistent contributors to their teams and are some of the best players are their respective position.

Hopkins has been underrated for the majority of his career, and Rhodes is one of the best corners in the game.

Would the Falcons Change Their Pick?: Our team is actually stacked at corner and receiver, so I think the team would feel comfortable taking Travis Frederick.

Obviously, Trufant has been a good player for the team, but in this respective exercise, I think he wouldn’t be the choice here.
