The Falcons stuck with defense in the second round. Did it work out for them?

The Pick: Robert Alford, Cornerback, 60th overall

Their Impact: Alford has teamed up with Trufant to form a solid pair in the Falcons secondary.

With 10 career interceptions and 253 tackles, Alford has been solid for the team, especially in the past two/three years.

Although his contract might make him a little overrated, I still feel that Alford is a solid No. 2 corner in a league full of passing.

Who Else Was Available That Round?: Two running backs went after Alford, Eddie Lacy, and Christine Michael.

It’s weird to think that Lacy was only drafted five years ago because his career went from peak to depth so quickly.

Although he had two 1,000 yard rushing seasons, he has fallen apart since then and might not play again in the league.

Michael was always seen as someone with unlimited potential, but he could never put it together.

Would the Falcons Change Their Pick?: No.

I understand that I just mentioned above that we’re stacked at cornerback. That doesn’t change my mind here.

Lacy played his way out of the league and Michael was always more potential than actual production.

Alford has been a solid piece for the Falcons and I think it’s worthwhile to keep him around here.
