Atlanta Hawks Vince Carter Likely to Retire in Atlanta
By Kit Anderson
One of the biggest off-season additions for the Atlanta Hawks this off-season was veteran Vince Carter. Carter is expected to help lead a young Atlanta locker room in the 2018-19 season.
The Atlanta Hawks signed two stable veterans in Jeremy Lin and Vince Carter. Carter is arguably the best addition outside of Trae Young considering his storied career and the leadership he can bring to a young team in Atlanta.
Carter also hasn’t lost his fire for the game talking about competing for minutes in Atlanta in what is likely his final season. Carter will turn forty-two this season and father time is catching up with the many miles the court has put on Carter’s legs.
In Atlanta, Carter will have the chance to play for minutes on a very young Hawk’s roster. If the Hawks are able to move on from Kent Bazemore’s contract before the start of the season even more minutes are likely to come Vince’s way.
At this point in his career, what should fans expect from Carter? Last season Carter averaged just over five points a contest this season fans should expect a bit more.
In what is likely to be his final year in the NBA Carter will play as many minutes as the coaches and his legs will allow. Averaging 7-10 points a game Carter is going to be a great bench piece for a young Hawks squad.
Adding in a few dunks as well showing flashes of the old Vince Carter we all know and love.
Having a veteran like Carter around to help a young player like Trae Young will be great as well. Young will be facing immense pressure with NBA pundits tuning in to see how the young point man does in his first season.
Vince Carter to Atlanta is one of the underrated moves of the NBA off-season. One giving fans a lovable player to cheer for as their team endures yet another losing season in Atlanta.
