Atlanta Falcons: What to Watch in Tonight’s Pre-season Action
By Kit Anderson
The Atlanta Falcons are getting ready to kick off their pre-season against the New York Jets. With that in mind, what should fans look for tonight in game one?
Tonight’s Atlanta Falcons game is exciting for the football-starved fans in Atlanta. Still with a bad taste in their mouth from the ugly playoff loss to the Eagles. The starters are unlikely to play more than one or two sets meaning it will quickly become a game of position battles.
Watching offense lineman and defensive lineman fight for positions will be the best battles this pre-season has to offer for the Falcons. The guards and defensive tackle depth charts are yet to be determined and the only point of interest for Atlanta.
For the Jets, however, it could be a bit more interesting as their quarterback battle will get underway against Atlanta. Watching how Sam Darnold fares will be a big NFL storyline as will the return of Teddy Bridgewater to the football field.
The Falcon’s best attribute will, unfortunately, make many of there pre-season games boring. Depth is something Atlanta has at almost every position with very few position battles happening that will impact the team greatly.
Watching who wins the fourth receiver position between Marvin Hall and Justin Hardy could be interesting though barring injuries it is doubtful either see very many targets.
Tonight’s most interesting storylines will be standing on the opposing sideline. Watching the Jet’s quarterback battle get underway should be interesting for even the casual NFL fan.
For the Falcons tonight’s game will be most important for the young players who are attempting to adjust to the speed of the NFL. Players like Calvin Ridley and Deadrin Senat get reps in live game action will be key.
Tonight’s game will be featured on NFL Network kicking off at 7:30 EST as football is finally back in Atlanta.
