Wes Schweitzer

Right guard is the only position on the line that has garnered a lot of attention and rightfully so.  There doesn’t seem to be a set starter as the preseason begins in full force. Wes Schweitzer started every game for Atlanta at right guard last season and continues to show improvement with each start he makes. Schweitzer won the job as a rookie during the 2017 off-season in a contest with Ben Garland. Brandon Fusco, one of Atlanta’s top free agent acquisitions,  had been getting a lot of attention at the position. They needed a veteran presence there to help open lanes for Freeman and Coleman, as well as provide insurance should Schweitzer’s play fall off. He was featured there right away, and had already played on first team reps this summer.

The depth chart, however, lists Schweitzer ahead of Fusco. The two have rotated with the first-team offense during training camp. But it appears that Schweitzer has the upper-hand thus far as they head into their next preseason game. According to thewashingtonpost.com Schweitzer said, “this has been the best camp I’ve ever had, definitely the best offensive camp I’ve ever been a part of. I feel we’re really clicking right now and really pushing for it. It’s just been a really good camp.”
