Mike Foltynewicz is having a season to remember for the Atlanta Braves. Putting up numbers he has never come close to hitting before in his career establishing himself as the team’s ace.

Watching Atlanta this season it has become clear Mike Foltynewicz has been the Braves best pitcher as we hit the dog days of August. Foltynewicz has been the most consistent Braves pitcher with only Sean Newcomb coming close.

Newcomb still struggles with control issues at times making Mike clearly the most consistent pitcher so far. He is enjoying a career year putting up numbers he has never come close to in seasons past.

Setting a career high in strikeouts at 145 and already being one win away from matching his career high in wins with 9 so far this season.

Foltynewicz’s biggest improvement has been in his ERA sitting at 2.98 nearly two full points lower than last year’s 4.79 mark.

His ability to pitch to contact and keep his cool on the mound are things we haven’t seen from Folty in seasons past.

These trends must continue if the Braves hope for any postseason success. Julio Teheran has lost the pitcher he once was and aside from Sean Newcomb, it is hard to see any pitcher Braves fans will want to see go to the mound in postseason play.

Mike is finally paying off on the trust the team has put in him as he has struggled for the better part of three seasons with Atlanta.

Putting it together at just the right time for the Braves Foltynewicz will be key for the team moving forward.

The biggest question for Mike will be if this season is the new standard or simply a statistical anomaly for the right-hander?

His stuff is certainly good enough to maintain the numbers he has put up this season. Demonstrating an ability to truly pitch and not simply throw the baseball. Folty’s next start will come tomorrow in a doubleheader against the Miami Marlins.
