7 Things You Could See From The Atlanta Hawks in the Near Future
The Dewayne Dedmon Trade Watch
There haven’t been many trade rumors concerning Dewayne Dedmon, but there’s a reasonable chance that will change. Dedmon had a breakout season last year for the Atlanta Hawks, averaging career highs of 10 points, and a shade under 8 rebounds per game. The most amazing thing is, after previously attempting only 1 career 3 pointer, Dedmon knocked down 50 treys. Dewayne shot a respectable 35.5% from the land beyond.
If Dewayne can maintain, or improve on the level of his recent production, a contender is certain to value the stretch 5. Hawks’ GM Travis Schlenk is likely to listen for a few reasons. Dewayne Dedmon will be a free agent after the season, so the Hawks could lose him without compensation after the season. Dedmon who is soon to be 29 years old, also doesn’t fit the timeline of the Hawks young core. Most importantly, Schlenk covets draft picks more than anything for this rebuild.
Getting a 1st round pick for Dedmon is a stretch, but Travis Schlenk would likely settle for the right young prospect, still on his rookie deal. A 2nd round pick would likely be included as well. Keep in mind the Hawks have Alex Len who can step in at the position, even though he doesn’t offer the stretch ability of Dedmon.
