The Atlanta Braves ended their four-game slide winning in a pitcher’s duel 1-0 over the Pirates. Rookie Bryse Wilson shined in an impressive Major League debut.

If the first start is any indication Bryse Wilson is in the Atlanta Braves rotation to stay. Wilson at twenty-years-old made his first start pitching five scoreless innings giving up three hits and setting up the Braves for the nail-biting win.

Wilson was very impressive sporting a 94-97 MPH fastball with all types of movement. He did a great job moving the ball around challenging hitters at the top of the zone or getting them to swing over the top of a diving fastball.

Along with the fastball he used a changeup sitting in the high 80’s. While not a huge velocity difference much like his fastball the movement on his pitches were what got the job done.

Maybe even more impressive then his stuff was the composure Wilson brought to the mound. With the exception of a couple of moments, Wilson looked as if he had been pitching in at this level for years.

His mound presence was impressive and he seemed to be in control at all times. Watching him pitch was fun and devoid of the expected hiccups in a player’s first start at twenty years old.

The timing of bringing Wilson up was perfect yet again. Much the same as they have done all season when the team seems to be struggling a bit they call up a prospect to help infuse energy in the clubhouse.

Wilson is an interesting addition considering he could be a key contributor down the stretch. Having a pitcher like Wilson adds another layer to the Braves rotation or bullpen if the Braves decided to move him to keep him on the team during a potential postseason run.
