There aren’t many teams left that can absorb large bad contracts for cap space. With that said there are teams that would swap a bad contract and an asset for a player who provides more production. Contenders such as the Lakers, and the Washington fit that description.

How it helps the Hawks
The Atlanta Hawks would get more 1st round draft compensation while not taking on a contract any longer than Bazemore’s. This fits with the plan of building through the draft.
