Vince Carter is officially on the Atlanta Hawks roster weeks after the news broke of him signing in Atlanta. Carter signed a one-year deal while talking about the role he expected to play with the Hawks.

Vince Carter signing with the Atlanta Hawks makes sense for the veteran and the team for many reasons. The most obvious being the Hawks can offer Carter far more playing time than almost any other team in the League.

Carter has made it clear he isn’t coming to Atlanta to sit on the bench. He wants the ability to compete and help the Hawks win games.

While he is likely to come off the bench barring injury the team has plenty of reason to think Carter can still contribute.

Another reason the deal made sense for both sides is the fact Carter has spent twenty years playing this game. There are very few players in the League with Carter’s basketball IQ keeping him in the League with his psychical skills eroding.

Having a veteran like Carter around for Trae Young to lean on will be a big boost for the Hawks. Keeping Vince in the rookie’s ear pushing him to put in the preparation and teaching him how to be an NBA player will help the Hawk’s rebuild.

As far as production, Carter will bring little to the table though he is an improvement on last year’s Hawk’s bench. Five to ten points off the bench a night should be the norm for Carter, useful production for a veteran helping the team both on and off the court.

The 2018/19 season will be Carter’s last as he is likely to retire after spending his final season in a Hawk’s uniform.  The Atlanta Hawks season will kick off the season on October 17th on the road against the Knicks.
