It’s a good thing to have a good quarterback problem in College Football. That’s what Georgia Football Coach Kirby Smart has in Athens with Jake Fromm and Justin Fields, and the talk will keep on intensifying.

On Saturday, the Dawgs dominated the Austin Peay Governors in a 45-0 rout. However, the biggest surprise of the game, was Justin Fields making his first collegiate appearance in the game fairly early.

Jake Fromm getting all of his series in before halftime would’ve seemed like the most likely outcome. But there was Fields appearing early in a 17-0 game, ready to make his debut.

The result was a good one for the Dawgs.

Fields first drive: a 3 play, 79 yard drive that ended with a Demetris Robertson 72 yard touchdown run.

Fields second drive: a 9 play, 69 yard drive ending with a Elijah Holyfield 17 yard touchdown run.

Fields final drive: a 5 play, 60 yard drive ending with a Fields touchdown pass to Isaac Nauta for 12 yards.

Fields final stats: 7/8, 63 yards, 1 TD and a Quarterback rating of 96.5 for Georgia Football. He also rushed for 33 yards.

There has been talk for months ever since Fields committed to Georgia Football, about how Kirby Smart is going to get Fields game reps behind Jake Fromm.

Saturday may have been a bit of preview of how it is going to transpire.

The Dawgs are in the middle of a quarterback problem…a good one at that. Jake Fromm is obviously going to get most of the reps at Quarterback for the remainder of the year.

But the Dawgs now have a sensational freshman quarterback waiting behind Fromm and can get reps at any time when a game gets out of hand.

Think about how Alabama’s quarterback problem has turned out.

Jalen Hurts led the Crimson Tide to a 12-1 record before the National Championship game last year. However, in a few games last season, there was a young freshman sensation, named Tua Tagovailoa (you may have heard of him), who received game reps throughout the year and made some spectacular plays (Look up the play against Vanderbilt).

When Jalen Hurts didn’t perform particularly well against the Dawgs in the National Championship, Tua came in and we all know the final result.

Now Tua has the chance to be the best quarterback in the Nick Saban era at Alabama.

I’m not saying that’s going to happen with Kirby Smart but let’s think hypothetically.

If Fromm has a bad game down the road, Kirby now has the opportunity to release Fields to go win a game for him.

We saw what Fields could provide; a great arm, exceptional pocket awareness and the ability for the explosive play.

Georgia Football has not had a good quarterback problem in a while, maybe never. With Justin Fields waiting for his moment to shine, it will be a fun couple of years in Athens and with the way Smart is recruiting, may be even longer.
