Concerned about the Pass Rush

Given the dominant nature of the Dawgs win over the Gamecocks, there isn’t much to be alarmed about. However the pass rush is a slight concern. The Georgia defense only recorded two hurries, and one sack on South Carolina quarterback Jake Bentley.

The sack and one of the hurries the UGA defense produced, were offered by outside linebacker D’Andre Walker. He was virtually a one man pass rush, and was all over the field in pursuit. Tyler Clark, the 300 pound nose tackle forced the other hurry for UGA.

As a whole, Jake Bentley often had too much time to throw. Despite the lack of a rush, the coverage has still been excellent. The pass rush improving, would make the coverage that much better.

In order for the Bulldogs’ defense to be one of the best in the entire country, an additional pass rush threat needs to step forward. Freshman outside linebacker Brenton Cox is a player to watch in that regard, as the season progresses.
