Georgia Football: Five Things to Watch vs Middle Tennessee State
Tight End Luke Ford
A player who is just recently starting to garner some buzz, is 6’6 252 pound tight end Luke Ford. Luke was rated as a four star player, and the number three tight end in the nation, by 24/7 Sports. He was also rated player number 51 in the nation, and the top player in his state out of Carterville, Illinois.
There buzz around the Georgia Football program, is that Luke Ford, a true freshman, has excelled in practice recently. He is pushing current tight ends Isaac Nauta and Charlie Warner for playing time atop the Dawgs’ depth chart.
The reason Luke Ford is staring to crack the rotation, is because he’s showing the savvy and route running to get open. He’s also displaying great hands when catching the ball.
Most importantly for the Georgia Bulldogs, Ford is also showing the ability to block edge defenders with ferocity. The ability to block by a tight end, is just as essential to the Dawgs’ offense as catching passes. In fact blocking probably carries more weight for Offensive Coordinator Jim Chaney.
Luke Ford should see a nice amount of snaps today. Coach Kirby Smart never opens practice to fans besides the spring game. He also only opens part of practice to the media. Today should give us all a chance to validate the buzz of his great play in practice.
