The Atlanta Hawks are expected to once again be the doormats in the Eastern Conference. The team is relying on a young core they are building after the new style of basketball.

Trae Young is set for his first full season with the Atlanta Hawks. A season full of expectations for Young to show he is the point man of the future for the Hawks. Atlanta meanwhile has zero expectations of their own.

This season is yet another rebuilding year, a waiting game for the Hawks. Waiting out the dynasty in Golden State, though they are now free of Lebron’s dominance of the Eastern Conference.

With that in mind, could the Hawks surprise people this season? The short answer is yes, the team will surprise though only to a point.

Young is going to have very ugly games and games where he cannot miss. It is typical of a rookie and the nature of three-point shooters in general. Defensively the Hawks will be scrappy, though they lack a paint protector.

John Collins will play center in most small ball lineups, while Dedmon will remain the team’s starting center.

Hardly an intimidating pair, though they go with the Hawk’s new style perfectly helping the team run the floor.

Defying expectations this season will simply mean being better than another team in the East. The Hawks may not be ready to step towards the playoffs but they will take a step forward this season.

With Dennis Schroder no longer in the locker room, the team will have a more cohesive unit. One that will keep Atlanta in games and allow them to come back considering their three-point shooting ability.

Trae Young, Omari Spellman, and Kevin Huerter will make the Hawks better this season. All three have potential and play unique styles of basketball incorporating the three-point shot in their respective games.
