Justin Fields – Quarterback

Freshmen Quarterback Justin Fields saw his first meaningful action against an SEC opponent, in the Georgia Bulldogs’ win over the Vols. He was used much more frequently. Justin responded well, giving the team a much-needed jolt.

Offensive Coordinator Jim Cheney sometimes inserted Fields in for one snap, and at other times he allowed Fields to play multiple snaps. Justin came through with 45 yards on five carries and two huge touchdowns. He also completed a five yard pass to Riley Ridley.

Justin Fields was given an opportunity to play in every quarter of this game except the first quarter. Georgia Football scored a touchdown on every single drive that Fields played in.

More than just the fact that Fields scored two touchdowns himself, his presence alone made the running game more effective. Defenders have to stay home on the back side until they’re sure Fields no longer has the ball, opening more cutback lanes for the Dawgs running backs.

Justin Fields ran the ball with great power, speed, and vision. Fans in the Georgia Football Facebook groups are now referring to Fields as Cam (Newton) 2.0. One thing is for certain, Justin Fields has played well enough to earn more snaps in a change of pace role. He also earns a bone from us.

D’Andre Walker – Edge Rusher

Outside linebacker / defensive end D’Andre Walker continued to build his resume as a one man wrecking crew for the Dawgs front seven. Walker added another sack bringing his team leading total to four. He also freed up things for his teammates with the double teams he received.

In addition to the strong game he played against the pass, Walker was phenomenal at setting the edge against the outside run game. He finished with five tackles, second on the team, as well as a tackle for a loss.

Replacing the departed Lorenzo Carter was a concern for Georgia Football coming into the season, but D’Andre Walker has done a nice job filling the role all year, and the Tennessee game was no different. For that reason Baker receives a bone.

Other Georgia Bulldogs Receiving Bones:

Deandre Baker – Cornerback

Deandre Baker, the nation’s best cornerback had another shutdown day against Tennessee. He wasn’t facing an All SEC wide receiver as he did in his first two conference games of the season, yet it doesn’t diminish the fact that he shut down his man, and defended two passes. At this point its a surprise that opposing teams are still testing Baker.

J.R. Reed – Safety

Junior strong safety J.R. Reed has been a tackling matching all year. He’s second on the Dawgs defense in tackles on the season. He led UGA with six tackles on the afternoon. For that reason, along with his on field leadership helping to get his teammates lined up, Reed receives a bone.
