Atlanta Braves Sean Newcomb to Start Must-Win Game in Atlanta
By Kit Anderson
The Atlanta Braves are facing a must-win game in Atlanta and will be sending Sean Newcomb to the mound. Tonight’s elimination game will show just how ready this young team is for postseason play.
Watching the first two games of the series it isn’t any secret the Atlanta Braves have been absolutely dominated. They are yet to score in the series and down 0-2 as the series moves back to Atlanta.
Sean Newcomb will start in game three for Atlanta after pitching two scoreless innings in game one.
Newcomb was at times Atlanta’s best pitcher this season but less consistent than Mike Foltynewicz. He will now be facing the pressure of starting a must-win game in Atlanta.
Atlanta performance in the series so far has pointed to the fact they have very little postseason experience and the Dodgers have the far superior roster.
Ronald Acuna Jr. and Ozzie Albies have both been kept quiet and the offense has failed to so much as threaten the Dodgers pitching staff.
A lone bright spot for the Braves has been the bullpen. The bullpen has been surprisingly good for the Braves keeping Atlanta close despite both starters giving up the lead in the first inning.
For Newcomb the bar isn’t set very high, he simply needs to escape the first two innings without giving up more than a run and he will have bested both previous starters.
SunTrust Park will be waiting for the Braves to finally strike and put a run on the board. If the scoreless streak from the Atlanta offense cannot come to an end quickly they will likely be eliminated tonight in Atlanta.
Tonight’s game will be aired on FS1 as the Dodgers try to complete a sweep and Atlanta attempts to prolong the series to a game four in Atlanta.
