Atlanta Falcons: Matt Ryan Playing at MVP Level Early This Season
By Kit Anderson
The Atlanta Falcons finally got back on the winning track Sunday, beating Tampa Bay. Matt Ryan continued to play at an MVP level during the win giving Atlanta Falcon’s fans hope.
Matt Ryan has looked as good this season as he has at any point in his career. Shaking off a rough game one performance Ryan has completely turned his season around. He is second in yardage in the League with 1,955 trailing only Big Ben in that category.
He continues to take care of the football throwing two interceptions this season compared to fourteen touchdowns.
Mobility has been a weapon for Ryan as well stepping around in the pocket buying time or taking off for rushing touchdowns or first downs.
Ryan is playing at an MVP level so far this year and that was on full display against Tampa. He completed his first 11 passes he attempted and threw for 354-yards with three scores.
Matt Ryan is being outplayed by division rival Drew Brees so far in the early MVP race. Brees early success along with the Falcon’s 2-4 record will keep Ryan out of most MVP conversations.
But if Ryan continues to play at the pace he has and the Falcons find a way to string together wins Ryan could force himself in a second MVP race.
The biggest key for Ryan this season has been the fact he is spreading the ball around regularly. Avoiding force feeding Julio Jones (an understandable strategy) is when Ryan is playing at his best.
Next up for Matt Ryan and the Falcons, will be the New York Giants on Monday Night Football. Atlanta will have an extra day to prepare for Eli Manning and the struggling Giants. A team Atlanta should beat on paper as long as Ryan continues to play at the MVP level he has been in 2018.
