The Atlanta Hawks made the opening of the New State Farm Arena one to remember. They overcame a 26 point deficit to defeat the Dallas Mavericks 111-104.

The Atlanta Hawks thrilled the home town crowd at brand new State Farm arena, with the incredible come from behind win. The game was Atlanta’s only scheduled national television game.

Trae Young vs Luka Doncic 1st Half

The world tuned in to see the battle of two top five draft picks that were traded for one another on draft night. Trae Young versus Luka Doncic was certainly required viewing.

Trae Young came out aggressive driving to the basket early but had his shot blocked by Dennis Smith Jr. Next he two men exchanged assists. Then Young attacked the basket again, was fouled, and sank both free throws to open up the scoring in the rookie clash.

Luka Doncic responded with a step back three pointer, and promptly began to heat up. He drilled two floaters and a trail three pointer. He as also added two free throws to finish with 12 first quarter points. In addition, he added a rebound and an assist.

Trae Young finished quarter one with two points, two assist and one rebound. The only instance that Trae Young guarded Luka Doncic in the first quarter was a play in which Doncic posted up Young on the right block. He attempted to spin inside, but Young stripped him.

The second quarter was slow for both men. Trae Young picked up his second and third fouls quickly. He left the game with 10:15 left in the quarter and did not return. He was only able to add one more point on a free throw. Trae finished the first half without a field goal, missing all four shot attempts.

Luka Doncic on the other hand was a lot less aggressive in the second period. He missed his only shot attempt. He had just one rebound in the quarter. Luka also had a turnover and only played in just over half of the quarter as Dallas led by ten at the half.
