Georgia Bulldogs: Jake Fromm Must Improve Now
By Kit Anderson
The Georgia Bulldogs are getting set to face their toughest test in the regular season, the Florida Gators. The Dawgs must win to keep hope alive, and Jake Fromm may be facing the most pressure of all.
Jake Fromm was a spark for the Georgia Bulldogs last season. He led the team to a Championship appearance and consistently made plays when the Bulldogs needed him the most. This season has been a different story, with Justin Fields sharing time at quarterback.
Fromm is coming off of what may be his worst career start for the Bulldogs. In a horrible loss to LSU Fromm completed only 47% of his passes and tossed two picks.
Fromm had only thrown 2 picks all season, before tossing two balls LSU’s way. Now against Florida Georgia cannot afford to turn the ball over.
Fromm must have more pocket awareness throwing the ball away not taking bad sacks. Fromm may have some confidence shaken with Justin Fields sitting behind him waiting for a chance. The problem for Georgia is they obviously don’t trust Field’s arm.
Every Fields play this season has seemingly been a run or a very easy throw. They aren’t letting the freshman throw the ball down the field which gives Fromm a huge advantage in the quarterback competition.
Fromm has already face failure and guided his team to the biggest stage. Now he must call on last season’s experience and play better in Georgia’s biggest game of the season.
Losing to Florida would mean Georgia is unlikely to make the SEC Championship and would dash any hopes they have of making the playoffs.
With a stable of running backs capable of hitting home runs Florida will likely elect to load the box. After last week’s performance they will force Fromm or Fields to prove they can throw the ball down the field consistently.
Something Fromm was incapable of doing against LSU. This game will come down to Fromm, if he cannot improve and play better Georgia will not win this game regardless of how the rest of the team fares.
Fromm must complete 60% of his passes or better, as he had before the loss to LSU. He cannot take terrible sacks putting Georgia behind the sticks.
With Justin Fields limited to being a glorified running back all the pressure will be squarely on Jake Fromm this week.
He must get back to the style he played last season. Managing the game, not trying to do too much at once making clutch throws and taking care of the football.
Georgia and Florida will kick-off at 3:30EST on CBS.
