Atlanta Falcons: Week Seven Grades Versus New York
Tevin Coleman – Running Back
Just looking at the stats you would say Tevin Coleman had a decent day. He had 50 yards rushing on 11 carries and one touchdown, averaging 4.5 yards per carry.
However Tevin Coleman had a 14 yard run to start the game, a 30 yard run late in the quarter, and not much else in between. He rushed for just six yards on his other nine carries, as the Atlanta run game had difficulty moving the ball.
More than just running, Tevin Coleman struggled in pass protection. Tevin allowed two pressures, one hurry and one hit on Matt Ryan.
On a positive note, Coleman did contribute two catches for 32 yards. The catches weren’t enough to keep Tevin from getting a PFF grade of just 50.4. His pass blocking grade was a horrid 5.2.
ATL All Day Grade: D-
Wes Schweitzer – Guard
Wes Schweitzer was forced into the starting lineup after a season ending injury to Andy Levitre. He was scheduled to be a backup this year, after struggling mightily as the starter at right guard last season. Now that he’s back in the lineup, Schweitzer has resumed his struggles.
Wes Schweitzer struggled in multiple ways against the Giants. He allowed Matt Ryan to be pressured, and hit on one play. Wes also struggled to hold his own at the point of attack in the run game. To make matters worse, Schweitzer had a false start penalty that killed a drive.
The struggling Wes Schweitzer continues to grade as one of the worse starting guards in the NFL. He was given a meager grade of 52.2. His pass blocking grade of 63.4 was sub par, his run blocking grade of 55.1 reflects his issues at the point of attack.
ATL All Day Grade: D
Ryan Schraeder – Right Tackle
Ryan Schraeder had one of his best games of the season in week six. Inexplicably he regressed back into a pattern of below average play that has plagued him this season in week seven. The six-year veteran out of Valdosta State has been a rock for Atlanta prior to this year.
In the week seven contest Ryan Schraeder struggled to move the line of scrimmage in the run game. Schraeder also allowed Matt Ryan to be hurried and pressured. Worst of all, Schraeder committed two penalties that contributed to drives bogging down.
Pro Football Focus gave Ryan Schraeder a grade of just 53.1 for week seven. He graded 69.6 as a run blocker, and 55 as a pass blocker.
