Atlanta Braves: Bargain Bin Free Agents that Fit With Atlanta
By Kit Anderson
3. Atlanta Could Add an Arm with Postseason Experience in Sergio Romo
Sergio Romo has his best days as a relief pitcher behind him. History says Romo is unlikely to replicate his numbers from his Giant’s days when he was closing out meaningful games. Romo has been pitching for Tampa Bay out of the spotlight, and away from attention.
His numbers are average with a 25 saves, 8 holds, and an ERA well over four. He has more than 100 career saves and will offer the Braves another veteran in the bullpen.
Romo in Atlanta on a short term deal makes a lot of sense for both sides. The only problem with this potential deal is if the free agent market drives Romo’s price past his value.
If the market continues last year’s trend with veterans struggling to find work Romo in Atlanta would be a great move.
Signing him to a one-year deal while still looking for a closer is Atlanta’s best bet to help stabilize a questionable bullpen.
