Atlanta Falcons Season Likely Over After Embarrassing Loss to Cleveland
By Kit Anderson
The Atlanta Falcons playoff hopes were likely dashed with Sunday’s terrible 28-16 loss to the Cleveland Browns. A loss pointing out just how terribly things have gone this season in Atlanta.
This season can be summed up in Sunday’s head scratching loss to the Browns. It was an ugly loss where the Atlanta Falcon’s defense and offense looked completely inept. Now sitting at 4-5 on the season it seems obvious the Falcons are not going to be a playoff team in 2018.
Coming into the season expectations were high for a young Falcon’s defense, and an offense with an embarrassing amount of weapons.
This season hasn’t gone according to script with the Falcons defense playing poorly and the offense always failing to make one big play when they need it most.
With games left against the Saints, Panthers, and Cowboys the Falcon’s season is all but over. Going 6-1 is the only way Atlanta would have a realistic shot at the playoffs.
Losing again in the next three games would almost certainly be the end of the season for the Falcons.
While many eyes will focus on the injuries that have hurt Atlanta all teams have had key injuries this season.
It is up to the coaching staff to overcome these and put their team in a position to succeed. Consistently Atlanta cannot find the calls they need to win ballgames.
In the first game of the season Atlanta couldn’t get into the end zone to beat the defending champs the Eagles.
With attempt after attempt Atlanta fell and lost their first game of the season. Similar losses to the Bengals and Saints followed, games where Atlanta couldn’t make the one play to win the game.
Whether it is inability of the coaching staff or poor execution from the players is up to interpretation. What isn’t, however, is that Atlanta has far too talented of a roster to be sitting at 4-5 on the season with their playoff hopes all but over.
With their season hitting a new low with the loss to the Browns, Atlanta now will be facing new questions. Is the coaching staff in Atlanta a good fit? And will Atlanta ever make a big play when it matters most?
Next up for the Falcons will be the Dallas Cowboys in Atlanta, another must-win game facing the Falcons as they attempt to run the table.
