Wes Schweitzer – Left Guard

This is not a misprint. Wes Schweitzer made our high flyers list for week ten. Schweitzer who has had difficulty handling strong defensive tackles throughout his career as a starter, has turned in a good performance for the second straight week.

Wes Schweitzer played 75 snaps and impressively did not allow Matt Ryan to face one single pressure. PFF awarded Wes with a pass blocking grade of 80.9. His run blocking grade isn’t as good at 68.9 because the Falcons struggled to run the ball as a team.

Schweitzer was also penalty free on afternoon. It will be interesting to see if Wes can have a third consecutive good game. It may be necessary for the Atlanta Falcons to gain a victory.

Jake Matthews – Left Tackle

Jake Matthews has been steady for the Atlanta Falcons, taking on the best pass rushers in the NFL and holding up extremely well. Week ten continued that trend and Jake played very well against the Browns.

In 75 pass rushing snaps, Jake Matthews allowed only one hit on Matt Ryan. The technically sound Matthews, had a pass blocking grade of 81.1, tops on the Atlanta Falcons offensive. Like Schweitzer he didn’t fare as well in the run game, receiving a grade of 63.1 by PFF. Also like his teammate, he did not draw a flag all game.

Ben Garland – Right Guard

Ben Garland the fifth year guard from the Air Force Academy, has shown well in two of three games since taking over for the injured Brandon Fusco. He’s certainly beginning to earn the one year 2.9 million dollar contract, that many questioned the Atlanta Falcons for signing him to.

Ben Garland had a strong game for the Atlanta Falcons, allowing only one hurry on Matt Ryan on the afternoon. That was good for a PFF pass blocking grade of 77.5. He also graded as the offensive line’s most effective run blocker, with a grade of 69.2. Salute to captain Ben Garland for his solid play.
