The Atlanta Hawks are off to yet another dismal start this season. With a full rebuild still ongoing, could the Hawks opt to explore trading one of their best players in Taurean Prince?

Taurean Prince has continually improved for the Atlanta Hawks, while seeing his name continue to be thrown in possible trade scenarios. While there are yet to be any rumors worth reporting the fact that Prince’s name keeps coming up means there is a market for the forward.

In a full rebuild Atlanta must consider all possibilities including trading Prince. Prince has continued to improve each season for Atlanta, he is now considered one of if not their best player.

For a roster essentially talent free that isn’t saying much, however, Prince is an athlete in the truest sense of the word, one who can do a lot of things at a high level.

He went from averaging 5.7 points his rookie season to 14.1 last year and is averaging over 16 points so far this season.

His ability to shoot the ball from distance is improving as well and will be a sought after commodity if Atlanta were to deal him.

For Atlanta, the question is worth over long term value. What can they trade Prince for now, that presumably would be worth more than Prince will be when the Hawks work their way back into contention.

The Hawks are at least one great draft and quality free agent signing away from being a viable contender. Likely they are two or three years away from contending again for a playoff spot.

Prince in that time will continue to develop and get better in Atlanta. Finding a player with his defensive and offensive abilities isn’t going to be easy.

Despite the temptation to turn Prince into draft pick compensation it would be a mistake for Atlanta. Prince is a good player who could be great with a good team around him.

Trading Prince would set the rebuild back another year or more. He is a good forward who deserves to help Atlanta return back to relevance. More to come as the NBA trade deadline moves closer.
