Atlanta Falcons Turkey of the Week: Offense

Ben Garland – Right Guard

Ben Garland is starting at right guard in place of the injured Brandon Fusco. He has actually been pretty solid as a starter. This week he fell off the wagon and turned in one of the worse games of his career. It was also one of the worse by an Atlanta Falcons player this season.

The Dirty Birds couldn’t get their running game on track at all in week 12. Garland bears a part of that responsibility, grading 52.0 as a run blocker. That’s the second lowest grade on the team.

There is no way to sugar coat it, Ben Garland was atrocious as a pass blocker in New Orleans. Ben allowed an unacceptable four pressures, two hurries and one hit on Matt Ryan. He also gave up a sack.

The awful pass blocking earned Ben Garland a PFF grade of 27.0 for the category. That’s the worse pass blocking grade that I personally remember seeing, of any Atlanta Falcons offensive lineman.

Ben Garland must play better, because teams will now attack him with the same a-gap blitzes that he struggled with in New Orleans.
