Georgia Bulldogs Why Justin Fields Transferring Doesn’t Matter
By Kit Anderson
The Georgia Bulldogs may lose Justin Fields to a transfer with the dynamic quarterback failing to win the starting job from Jake Fromm. Transferring is the right move for Fields and will not hurt the Dawgs.
Justin Fields was a fun weapon for Coach Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs. A weapon that seemed to telegraph exactly what they were going to do to the opposing defense. Fields rarely threw the ball and was a glorified wildcat quarterback.
Still, with the news Fields could choose to transfer, Georgia fans are concerned losing Fields will be a big hit. Nothing could be further from the truth for Georgia. If Fields does choose to transfer Kirby Smart will continue to lead his team, it will be business as usual.
Whether he stays or goes Jake Fromm is the starting quarterback in Athens and will continue to hold the job for at least another year.
It is time for Kirby to begin looking at other quarterback prospects and allow Fromm to lead the team without pressure constantly behind him. Fields was a weapon, but a weapon that the Dawgs can do without next season.
Fromm is the starting quarterback, and leader of the Georgia Bulldogs offense. Having Justin Fields leave will only clarify this point further and take a single weapon away from a loaded Georgia Bulldogs offense.
Fields is still undecided on his transfer and could still opt to stay with Georgia. If he does choose to stay in Athens, Smart will likely attempt to sell him on the idea of playing meaningful snaps as a weapon much as he did this past season.
For the Bulldogs the only problem with losing Fields is the fact if Fromm were to suffer an injury they have very little depth in their quarterback room.
Losing Fields may not be what Bulldog’s fans want to happen at they are trying to stomach yet another loss to Alabama. But it may be the right move for Fields who is capable of starting, and a move that doesn’t hurt the Georgia Bulldogs or their title chances in 2019.
