Atlanta Braves Need More From Ozzie Albies in 2019
By Kit Anderson
Ozzie Albies will be the Atlanta Braves starting second baseman in 2019 and a barometer for how good the Braves can be in 2019. Albies has dynamic potential that can change the Braves lineup.
Ozzie Albies was a spark plug for the Atlanta Braves offense for the first half of the 2018 season. The second half was hard on the youngster who was a big reason for the Braves offensive fall off in the second half.
In 2019 Albies again will have the ability to make the Braves offense dynamic if he can find any form of consistency this season.
Albies hit .281 in the first half of the 2018 season before managing only .226 line in the second half. His power numbers dropped badly as well and he struggled to make consistent solid contact.
His aggressiveness worked against him badly with pitchers throwing terrible pitches and Ozzie obliging chasing them high or into the dirt.
This season Ozzie can be the difference maker for an Atlanta offense with the potential to be great this season. He must adjust and be patient at the plate swinging only at strikes and giving his team the dynamic hitter he is capable of being.
Defensively Ozzie is a solid option that won’t hurt the Braves. While he isn’t elite with his glove he hustles and will make plenty of run saving plays on the infield.
Ozzie must step forward in 2019 and help push the Braves to a postseason run. He will be the key to a Braves lineup that has the potential to be very deep and dangerous in the 2019 season.
Offensively the Braves must take a step forward to help support a very young pitching staff. With new additions and players like Ozzie taking a step forward Atlanta could become one of the best offenses in baseball for many seasons to come.
