Atlanta Hawks: Time to Move on From Inconsistent Kent Bazemore
By Kit Anderson
The Atlanta Hawks are focusing on rebuilding, ridding themselves of bad contracts and building for the future. With that in mind, it is time for the Hawks to move on from veteran Kent Bazemore.
Kent Bazemore is the longest tenured player on the Atlanta Hawks roster and has been with the team since his early seasons. Now it is time for the Hawks to do the right thing and move on from a veteran who will not play into the team’s future.
Bazemore is one of the most puzzling and inconsistent players in basketball. Any given night he can score 30, only to fail to reach double digit points for next two weeks.
Trading him to a contender would be a great move for an Atlanta team looking to shed salary for future assets.
It is highly doubtful the Hawks will be able to trade Bazemore for much of a return. With a high salary and an iffy track record the Hawks shouldn’t expect more then a gamble of a player or a low pick in return.
Kent is averaging 14-points a game so far this season and has had several big games that will showcase his talent to potential trade partners.
He is at his best when he is playing on a contending team coming off of the bench as the 6th or 7th option. That is the role he served in best during his early seasons in Atlanta when the Hawks were contending.
The market for Bazemore is tepid at best but teams like the Houston Rockets or OKC Thunder could be great potential matches if the Hawks are willing to take a bad salary in return.
No matter the move, it is time for the Hawks to continue to move in a different direction and rid themselves of bad contracts. It is time for the Hawks to trade Kent Bazemore.
