Atlanta Falcons Should Show Interest in Le’Veon Bell This Off-Season
By Kit Anderson
The Atlanta Falcons have plenty of questions at the running back position and no player could answer them more easily then Le’Veon Bell. Signing Bell is an unlikely move but one the Falcons should explore.
Signing Le’Veon Bell would leave the Atlanta Falcons offense no excuses and give them a legitimate running game. Devonta Freeman has been injured and inconsistent, and Tevin Coleman is set to depart as a free agent.
Bell is coming off of a year in which he held out for the entire 2018 season. He will now hit free agency and likely sign somewhere other than with the Steelers.
If Atlanta were to rid themselves of Freeman’s contract and opt to sign Bell it would open up a whole new dynamic in Atlanta. With a myriad of passing game weapons and a healthy Bell in the backfield, the Atlanta offense would be unstoppable.
All of this is a dream scenario until we look at one fact, Le’Veon is looking to get paid. Bell is looking to cash in on a long term deal, one that the Falcons will likely lack the financial flexibility to give him.
Signing Bell would limit their ability to improve the defensive and offensive lines. Two problems that need addressing badly in this year’s draft and free agency period.
Still, the Falcons should consider shopping in the bargain section and going all in on Bell. Le’Veon is a once in a generation type of talent who has the ability to run routes or deliver punishing hits to linebackers.
His skill set would fit perfectly with a finesse offense that would allow him to run routes or to take over a game running the ball.
Bell and Julio Jones on the same offense is a dream scenario Atlanta is unlikely to see become a reality. It is an option they should explore this off-season, however, and if at all possible bring Bell to Atlanta.
