Atlanta Braves: A 2019 Outlook For Brian McCann
By Kit Anderson
The Atlanta Braves have made three notable off-season additions including former Braves’ catcher Brian McCann. McCann is a great addition to a young roster that will benefit from his leadership.
Brian McCann and Chipper Jones were the faces of Atlanta Braves baseball not that long ago. Times have changed in Atlanta, and Chipper is now a Hall-of-Famer- and McCann is a veteran with a World Series ring.
Now McCann is coming back to Atlanta joining a young roster to provide leadership. McCann’s offensive abilities have eroded over the last few seasons. He hit .212 far off from his .263 career average.
The Braves are hoping Brian’s return to Atlanta will help his numbers improve. Regardless McCann is a great leader who is going to help guide a young pitching staff.
McCann is likely near the end of his career, coming home to Atlanta feels right for the hometown star. Few players have been as popular in Atlanta and McCann will now bring World Series experience home to Atlanta.
Brian won a ring with the Houston Astros another young team who burst onto the scene not that long ago.
The Astros won the Series with veterans like McCann and a solid rotation in place. McCann will need to help guide this young roster who is yet to taste any postseason success.
With a surprise postseason berth, last season for the Braves was considered a success the team will be looking to take the next step.
For McCann the question isn’t whether he will be productive for Atlanta, it’s if he can stay healthy. Using Tyler Flowers to keep McCann fresh and healthy will be a huge key to the Braves’ season.
McCann will likely be the clubhouse and emotional leader of this young team. The question for McCann will be can he deny father time for one more season?
