Atlanta Hawks Must Decide Which Veterans to Trade
By Kit Anderson
The Atlanta Hawks are facing a tough decision with the trade deadline a little over a week away. In the middle of yet another losing season, the Hawks must trade for future assets.
The Atlanta Hawks have a roster full of options with the trade deadline approaching fast. They have a young core in place and now must decide which pieces they want to leave in place around that core.
Trae Young, Kevin Huerter, and John Collins are the Atlanta Hawks core group. Right now everyone aside from those three can be considered on the table for Atlanta.
The Hawks are acquiring assets and setting themselves up for what is shaping up to be a very bright future.
Leaving their options open aside from trading any of those three players is a great move. Atlanta has the flexibility to shed cap or take more on for future assets.
Getting rid of any remaining bad contracts and loading up on picks is Atlanta’s best plan of action. Giving them a shot to land one of next season’s prized free agents and making Atlanta an attractive place to bring a star.
Atlanta is simply a good bench and one-star player away from competing for the playoffs again. These deadline deals may very well set the table to decide if Atlanta is one or two years away from being a contender once again.
The tandem of Collins and Young will be an attractive duo to any prospective free agent targets Atlanta chooses.
Ridding themselves of bad contracts and taking on picks and young players will give Atlanta a chance to sort out the remaining members of their core.
It will give players like Huerter the chance to be more aggressive as well with fewer scorers on the floor. Overall shedding themselves of veterans is the right move for Atlanta, but only if the price is right.
