Georgia Football: Dawgs Send Shockwaves By Hiring Florida DB Coach Charlton Warren
The Georgia Football program welcomes a new defensive backs coach, hiring Charlton Warren. The Dawgs stealing him from the rival Florida Gators sent shock waves around the College Football world.
Kirby Smart recently announced the hiring of Charlton Warren as defensive backs coach. The news shocked fans of Georgia football, as well as Florida Gators fans and caused an offseason clash between the two fan bases on social media. Warren is an Atlanta area native and should be an asset with keeping Georgia talent in state.
Charlton Warren has extensive experience having coached defensive backs at Florida, Tennessee, North Carolina and Nebraska. He also brings the added experience of coaching special teams at the University of Tennessee as well. Kyle Funderburk covered the signing on Dawn of the Dawg.
The move is expected to improve the Dawgs’ chances of landing cornerback prospect Kaiir Elam. Elam who hails from North Palm Beach, is ranked as the number six cornerback in the nation and the seventh best player in the state of Florida, according to composite rankings of 24/7 Sports.
The Gators were previously the heavy favorite to land Kaiir Elam, with Charlton Warren as his primary recruiter. Elam has since taken an official visit to UGA.
24/7 Sports ranks coach Warren number 41 in their 2019 recruiter rankings with five recruits landed for UF. However Warren has a better average recruit ranking than 20 coaches that are ahead of him in the overall rankings.
In addition to him being from Georgia, Warren’s time recruiting in Florida, Tennessee, and North Carolina should serve him well on the recruiting trail for the Bulldogs.
Charlton Warren is known for being an intense teacher as a defensive backs coach. This clip courtesy of UNC Tarheels Athletics gives us a glimpse at that the intensity that Charlton brings to the practice field.

Georgia Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart has yet to name a defensive coordinator. It is expected to come down to outside linebackers coach Dan Lanning and inside linebackers coach Glen Schumann. It’s highly likely that the coach that doesn’t get the defensive coordinator role will be named co-defensive coordinator.
With Kirby Smart at the helm the UGA defense is in great hands. The experience and intensity that Charleton brings should certainly prove to be a valuable, welcomed addition to the Bulldogs staff.
