The Atlanta Falcons are moving on from their kicker Matt Bryant. According to Bryant himself, he has been cut and is moving on. The move is both disappointing and shocking.

Not 24-hours after the Atlanta Falcons revealed they had cut corner Robert Alford, Matt Bryant broke the news he had been cut from the team as well. The move is shocking and disappointing for one of the best kickers in the last decade.

Bryant is a great kicker and one of the few automatic kickers left in the game. There was very little nervousness is Atlanta when a big kick needed to be made. It was one of the few aspects the Falcons could count on.

Matt Bryant was going to make the kick when the team needed it most. He has been a great kicker and had just announced he wasn’t planning to retire this season.

The Falcons cutting him is a very surprising move for one of the more popular players in Atlanta. While cutting him saves some cap space it is a terrible idea.

Bryant is set to become a free agent and should have no problem finding work. He is one of the few very good and reliable kickers in the game.

Cutting Bryant to save on cap is a head-scratching move considering how little it actually saves in comparison to what he brings to Atlanta. The Falcons now will have questions in the kicking game and a less experienced kicker.

Matt Bryant will likely find a well-paid contract considering his track record and the fact he is a known commodity. This move makes little sense in comparison to cutting Robert Alford who had struggled.

Aside from an injury, Bryant has been great in Atlanta and a good teammate.  Cutting him was a mistake the Falcons may live to regret next season.
