Atlanta Hawks: Trae Young Continuing to Show Jaw Dropping Skill
By Kit Anderson
Trae Young and the Atlanta Hawks showed encouraging signs in their 125-122 loss to the Pistons. Young showed out in the game playing one of his best games of the season leading the team in scoring.
The Atlanta Hawks are still in rebuild mode, a fact that makes last night’s loss a bit more forgivable. With a lead late in the fourth quarter, the Hawks fell short despite Young’s performance.
Trae scored 30-points adding in 10-assists on the night. It was a great performance for the rookie who is continuing to make the case he should be Rookie of the Year. His assists included one pass in the lane that completely turned his defender around.
Faking a pass he sent his defender running in another direction before passing to the open man for the score. It was a beautiful play that describes Young in a nutshell, always hustling, attempting to create, and being a distributor for his teammates first and a scorer second.
Young has continually taken strides forward this season and will give Atlanta their first true franchise player in a long time. Young’s defense isn’t the best, but he does show continual effort and hustle on both ends of the floor.
Atlanta’s biggest challenge this off-season will be finding players in the draft and in free agency to compliment Young’s talent. Finding players who know how to move without the ball and score off the pass.
Any player that fits this description would be a perfect teammate for Young who has an ability comparable to LeBron in the fact he can create offense for others without any help.
He demands constant attention when he has the ball in his hands often opening up shots and dunks for his team.
Last night’s loss may have been tough to swallow for the young Hawks. But it was an encouraging game, one that showed us yet again the great player Young is going to be.
