That’s a tough assessment for a team that is just beginning its season and attempting to adjust new coach Frank De Boer. It’s easy to see why no MLS team has won Concacaf. The timing of the tournament is less than ideal for the MLS Champions. They are coming off an offseason with changes, facing many teams that are in mid-season form.
The Five Stripes are also trying to acclimate to playing without MLS MVP runner-up Miguel Almiron. His replacement Gonzo “Pity” Martinez getting comfortable, will be key to Atlanta winning this match. George Bellows the 17-year-old phenom defender, is suffering from and injury and is unlikely to play. Brek Shea is expected to take his spot in the starting lineup. Defender Darlington Nagbe is also expected to see more time. He provided a good spark for the club in leg one.
Ezequiel Barco who struggled with rough play in game one, must play faster and not worry about rather he gets calls or not. He spent too much time in the first match looking for a call. Most importantly Atlanta United FC must get leading scorer Josef Martinez in the scoring column. He barely missed a goal in the first leg, his shot sailing left of the crossbar.

Even though the task is tall, Atlanta United FC is a different team at home. Being back on American soil should relax the club, as Costa Rica is a hostile soccer environment. I predict that Josef Martinez will score two goals, with one being assisted by Pity Martinez. The Five Stripes will rise to the occasion and move on to the next round.
