The Atlanta Legends finally made the right decision announcing that Aaron Murray will open this week as the starting quarterback. Murray led the team to their first victory last week.

Aaron Murray was the favorite to land the job for the Atlanta Legends but was beaten out by veteran Matt Simms. Simms started the first three games for the Legends and lost each of them easily.

He was overmatched and looked to have little pocket awareness or ability to manipulate the defense. Last week Simms started yet again exiting only when he was injured, providing Murray a chance to lead the team to their first victory of the season.

The difference between Murray and Simms was a marked one. Murray has a much better quarterback presence and ability to run the offense. Simms meanwhile, is better served as a backup for a team who should have gone to Murray earlier in the season.

The announcement of Murray as the starter isn’t surprising. It is the right move for a team near the bottom of the standings that must string wins together.

Watching the Legends delay giving Murray a chance was frustrating considering Simms inability. This isn’t to say Murray should have been given the job based on his past performances. Only that as badly as Simms was playing any backup should have been given the chance to do better.

That is just what Murray did when given the opportunity and will now attempt to finish out the season strong for the Legends. A solid season could afford Murray another chance at the NFL considering out often teams are searching for a quality backup.

Murray will attract more TV viewers and fans to the game considering his past with the Georgia Bulldogs.  Plenty of Dawgs fans will tune in cheering for their former quarterback.  More to come as the Legends dismal season continues.
