The Atlanta Falcons are expected to pursue guard J.R. Sweezy. A fact that isn’t surprising considering the lack of depth and talent along Atlanta’s offensive line. Sweezy would help to stabilize a questionable unit.

J.R. Sweezy to the Atlanta Falcons may not be the blockbuster move Atlanta fans are hoping for this off-season. But it would provide the Falcon’s quarterback with more protection and more depth for a very questionable unit.

Sweezy has spent the majority of his career with the Seahawks after breaking into the League in 2012.  He would be very familiar with the Falcons current Head Coach and give  Atlanta a much-improved line if they sign him and draft for depth.

Sweezy is an obvious upgrade from any current option the Falcons have on their roster. Though he is far from an elite lineman he is well above average and would offer improvements both in the pass and run blocking.

The problem for the Falcons during free agency is going to be price tags. Their cap space is extremely limited and they are yet to lock up their best players on new deals. Signing their players will be a priority and that means what little cap space they have will shrink even smaller.

Signing Sweezy would likely be their biggest move of the off-season. Leaving little cap to address anything aside from complementary pieces. This means the defensive line and any other areas of need must be answered in the draft.

With the Falcons impressive ability to find value late in recent drafts it isn’t a stretch to say they can do just that.

Sweezy is a good fit in Atlanta for a moderate price, he will provide stability and the Falcons a better chance to protect their franchise quarterback.  More to come as the NFL free agency frenzy gets underway.
