Atlanta Falcons Will Open the NFL Season in Make or Break Year
By Kit Anderson
The Atlanta Falcons and Denver Broncos will kick off the new NFL season in the preseason opening Hall-of-Fame game. It will be a tough season for the Falcons, one they have much relying on after a terrible 2018.
Saying this is a prove it year for Head Coach Dan Quinn and the Atlanta Falcons might be an understatement. With a highly paid and very talented roster, Atlanta’s window to win is nearing its end as Julio Jones and Matt Ryan both grow a year older.
Quinn and the Falcons will be put in the spotlight from the start of the season. It will be a make or break year for a team who must win now.
With a roster built to compete now and a defensive minded coach the Falcons must prove they can bounce back from the 28-3 debacle of two seasons ago.
Since then the Falcons have underachieved on both sides of the ball and made the playoffs once out of the two seasons since. In the one season they did make the playoffs they lost in horrible fashion.
The Hall-of-Fame game may be meaningless preseason football but it is the start of a season where Quinn will be in the spotlight from the start. He must guide his team back to the playoffs or could easily become one of the many coaches looking for another home.
Quinn is a good coach but has been led a team with a history of inability to come through in the clutch. This season Quinn must prove he can help guide Atlanta past this issue and back to the playoffs.
Looking around the division the Falcons should be the favorite on paper considering Tampa and Carolina have underwhelming rosters and New Orleans has an aging quarterback. 2019 is an important year for the Falcons one that will decide just where this team is headed.
