The Atlanta Falcons continued their trend of adding depth pieces to their offense signing veteran tight-end Luke Stocker. Stocker will be a blocking tight-end to help give Austin Hooper rest when needed.

Signing Luke Stocker may not be a move that will have Atlanta Falcons fans excited but it is a solid depth move for a team that needed more depth at the position. Stocker has 577 yards in his 7-year career to go with 5-receiving touchdowns.

Stocker isn’t going to aid the Falcons passing attack but he is a capable receiver in rare short yardage situations. With a wealth of receiving options Stocker may have more luck as a receiver in Atlanta.

Though it is doubtful the Falcons will use him on many passing plays. He is primarily a depth piece. He will provide the newly designed offensive line with a boost when the Falcons are in short yardage situations.

Stocker is a solid addition that is continuing the Falcons theme pointing towards what they will do in the draft. From all the offensive cuts and additions early in the off-season it appears the team will focus almost entirely on the defense in the upcoming draft.

Stocker and the newly improved Atlanta offensive line will aid the running attack Atlanta so badly needs in the 2019 season.

Signing pieces to patch together what is already a strong offensive roster will allow Atlanta to turn their full attention to fixing what was a terrible 2018 defense. Drafting players for the defensive line and secondary should be the Falcons next moves only adding complimentary free agents.

There cap space is limited giving them few options but to improve through the draft and shopping in the bargain aisles of free agency.  Adding Stocker was a good move one that will help the Falcons run game in 2019.
